Elizabethtown, KY – Anyone spending their weekends and summers at the Elizabethtown Sports Park will get a new menu option — barbecue.
According to Seth Breitner, director of Elizabethtown Parks and Recreation, the sports complex is getting into the food truck game.
“We want to give people a better overall visitor experience,” Breitner said. “It will add variety to what we sale, and that’s what we’re after.”
Deez Butts BBQ will be setting up at the park.
“We probably reached out to about six vendors, but Deez Butts was the only one who got back to us,” Breitner said.
The proposal officially was accepted at Monday’s city council meeting.
The fee for setting up at the park for all special events is $7,000 for the year.
The company, which also is serving the 5th Region boys’ basketball tournament at Central Hardin High School, is excited for the Sports Park opportunity, Deez Butts part-owner Tommy Barney said.
“We had a sit down meeting with them last week,” he said. “They’re just trying to get some food truck vending out there. We’re going to be set up for some of their special events. It’s an exclusive deal.”
Deez Butts, which is only a year old, has seen its business grow.
“We started with one truck and within a few months got another one. Now we have a sit-down restaurant in the flea market in Shepherdsville,” Barney said.
He added that working with sports complex would help even more.
“The foot traffic alone is why we’re doing this,” Barney said.
Wednesday night’s exhibition soccer match between the Louisville City Futbol Club and Lipscomb University will be Deez Butt’s first go-round at the complex.
“We’re excited to see where it takes us,” Barney said.
