. . . There is a lot of excitement surrounding USA Water Ski Foundation’s initiative to create a world class water sports complex within Auburndale’s Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. An official groundbreaking ceremony is set for Wednesday September 28th.

The multi-million dollar water sports complex, which includes the Elite Cable Park, operated by world renowned Aktion Parks; three tournament ski lakes; a new headquarters for the Foundation, USA Water Ski, the Water Ski Hall of Fame & Museum and a waterfront café will bring a whole new “on the water” dimension to the sports park.
New events and water sports are expected to fill the center with plenty of action. The center is also expected to bring more business to the city.
“I am so proud of the partnership that has formed between the Foundation and the City of Auburndale and am so pleased that the USA Water Ski Foundation has chosen to relocate their expanded facility to the City of Auburndale and the Lake Myrtle Park,” said City Manager Bobby Green. “We are looking forward to working further with them on their expansion and look forward to the groundbreaking.”
“We are excited to have reached this point and look forward to the wonderful opportunities this complex will create for the City of Auburndale and all partners involved,” said USA Water Ski Foundation Executive Director Tracy Mattes. “There are great synergies that create a win-win for everyone while creating unique opportunities to introduce new audiences of young people to fun, healthy, family oriented water ski and wake sports.”
Aktion Park’s Director of Operations Andrew Albury sees the new water sports complex as a major draw to water sports enthusiasts on local, national and international levels. “Aktion Parks is proud to be a partner with the USA Waterski Foundation, the City of Auburndale and all the partners involved in bringing this exciting project forward and taking another step in our mission to grow the sport of wakeboarding in a family friendly environment. ”
The ceremonial shovel-turning, featuring representatives from partners including the USA Water Ski Foundation, Aktion Parks, City of Auburndale, Polk County, Visit Central Florida, USA Water Ski, Five Star Family Growers, Rodda Construction, JSK Consulting and some of the world’s greatest water skiers and wakeboarders, will take place on the USA Water Ski Foundation property on the South end of Lake Myrtle.
